Bonna Rogers-Neufeld is the lead radiologist in breast imaging and intervention for Sierra Imaging Associates, serving at WISH Fresno Breast Center. Personalized service and strict attention to detail is the focus of each day as she dedicates her professional skills to the early detection of breast cancer and imaging of the breast. Dr. Rogers-Neufeld was born in Los Angeles, California and spent the first half of her life in that area. She attended Loma Linda University, La Sierra, for undergraduate work and initially was focused on secondary education with a degree in physical education and a minor in chemistry. After teaching school for two years, she returned to complete her prerequisites for medicine and was accepted to the Loma Linda University School of Medicine, graduating in 1980 as the president of her class. Radiology residency was completed at the White Memorial Medical Center, Los Angeles, which coincidentally was ½ mile from L. A. County-USC Hospital where her parents who had trained in surgery and nursing met. She was the Chief Resident at her hospital. She is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology. Work opportunities drew the Neufelds to Fresno in 1986, where Dr. Rogers-Neufeld was drawn to women’s imaging, and in particular, breast imaging and intervention. She began when the specialty was just beginning to have a designation and distinction. This dedication was honored in 1994 when Dr. Rogers-Neufeld was named “Fresno Woman of the Year.” Literally millions of mammograms later, the daily routine remains the same with women depending on her for their annual mammographic reading. In 2009, Dr. Rogers-Neufeld received Fellowship designation in the American College of Radiology. At that time only 383 American women had ever achieved this distinction. She also is a Certified Clinical Denistometrist, which is a certification of training and testing in bone density. This certificate was sought after when she discovered there was no access for children to get bone density evaluations in the entire central valley. Her husband of 34 years, Don O. Neufeld, passed away in 2009 from an accident. She has two sons. Ethan is a radiology resident at University of California, Davis. He follows the tradition of his mother and his paternal grandfather, both radiologists and graduates of Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Eric graduated from Fresno State with a degree in communication and currently resides in Fresno. The Neufeld family has always been supportive of local businesses, arts, and events. They have given of their time and talent to organizations including arts, public service, charities, and religious organizations. Dr. Rogers-Neufeld also gives up her vacation time to serve as a medical missionary to teach and train physicians about breast care and imaging. She has travelled to India, China, Nicaragua, and most recently Guatemala to be of service to others. She has many hobbies and interests. She is well known among family and friends for the perfect chocolate fudge, which has won several awards at the Fresno Fair. Her straight forward approach to problems and dedication to her patients makes her a valued asset to the imaging teams at both Sierra Imaging and WISH.
